BLISS IN BIRIYANI
Food is something that unites people across states, countries and even continents. A plate of delicacies doesn’t just cease the craving of a hungry stomach instead it also brings love, peace and a sense of calmness to our hearts. Jogging along the busy tracks of life, the only hour people come together is when food is on the table. Sitting before a table of good food gives an elite feeling even if it is just you alone. Yet, true bliss is when there are people you love, sitting crowded around a dish. That feeling is too superior for words.
For
some, just the sight of good food chases away odd moods and gives a touch of
joy for an exhausted mind.
The variety
of cuisines available around the globe simply amazes one. It might be
impossible to taste all cuisines scattered around the globe in a lifetime. But it is
possible to just read and know about them, especially for those who are
passionate about savories. And that was how, a particular feature in a magazine
caught my sight and prompted me to come up with a few rambles about food.
The article was all about biriyani, I would say ‘The king of dishes’, served especially in countries like India, Bangladesh and Pakistan. Biriyani is known for its exquisite taste and mesmerizing mixture of colors and flavors. It is a dish highly rated by a majority of people, both vegans and non-vegans since it can be made in meat combination as well as with vegetables alone.
The rationale that each state within India owns a different recipe for making biriyani is astonishing. But, the most striking truth is that each home within a particular town has a special ingredient to add to it in addition to the universal one’s. Yet, it stays the same old 'biriyani'. This often makes people excited to say: “Hey, have you tasted our biriyani? It’s a special one!”. And that's the very reason what makes biriyani ‘class-apart’ from all other dishes.
Living in a land of thousands of local variety of dishes, it is never a hard task to locate a ‘dhaba’ or a ‘thattukada’ in any state around India. Sometimes, it seems like the people managing these wayside food hubs scores pretty high in creative thinking because of the simple and productive arrangements they make within a limited space and ambience. The blazing lamps hung at the perfect spot and neatly arranged delicacies would invite at least a remark from anyone passing by. Though, a hungry stomach would definitely halt for a bite!
Likewise, every dish
has a story to share.
So does a
person who tastes a dish.
Care to
share? I would love to know!
