TO BE REWARDED
Is there
any reward for good other than good? (55:60)
β Chapter of The Most Gracious (Surah Rahman)
Sometimes
it is difficult to possess virtues, especially something so trying as patience.
Holding ourselves back from a difficult situation and swallowing up bitter
emotions like anger is not an easy action at all. In fact, it requires so much
determination, control over our minds and trust in the promised reward from
Allah for staying away from them. From the verse, it is simply understood that
the ultimate reward for doing good deeds can only be in the form of goodness
itself. For that, Allah has promised a great reward in the hereafter for those
who firmly trust in Him alone and invest this life for success in the
hereafter.
Hence, any
deed or character that benefits our self and others, even if they realize it or
not, will not be in vain. The difficulty that is faced in practicing them, or
the insult and embarrassment that accompanies with patience will be beneficial
in the afterlife. Many a times, such an act gives people the label of being
weak in responding to situations. But, Allah knows what is in our hearts more
than anybody else.
The verse
is from the Chapter of The Most Gracious or Surah Rahman. This is one of the
chapters with enlightening descriptions about the blessings that Almighty has
provided on earth including the wisdom needed for reading, writing and
understanding life, so that man might realize that the creator of the earth is
The Most Gracious as the title of the chapter reveals. It is also mentioned in
the chapter much about the life of the hereafter. The endless bounties of the
heaven for believers who patiently trusts in Allah and submits their life to
Him alone, enduring difficulties, along with performing good deeds is described
with beauty.
The chapter
also has an eloquent use of literature in which a single verse is seen to be
repeated thirty-one times in different contexts. In that verse, again, Allah
asks mankind which of His blessings do we deny.
Whether it
be the usage of precise language or the mentioning of simple examples like the
various fruits provided on earth for us to enjoy, or the seas created with
barriers between them, from which emerge corals and pearls, the chapter, enlightens
anyone who reads it, to realize the grace of Almighty!
