THINK AND BE THANKFUL

Say: “It is He who has created you, and endowed you with hearing(ears) and seeing(eyes), and hearts. Little thanks you give”. (67 : 23) –  Chapter of The Dominion (Surah Mulk)

Man is the only species on earth who has been blessed with the ability to think and reason. The capacity of the human brain to hold ample amount of information has been proven by studies. According to human psychology, the working of the human mind differs from person to person. Every individual has their own unique brain mechanisms for thinking and reasoning. Doesn’t this uniqueness create a feeling of amazement? Being provided with such a striking system that works throughout our lifetime, shouldn’t that be a motive to think more about ourselves?

In the verse, it is clarified that we have been gifted with ears for hearing, eyes for seeing and a heart that does its work without any fatigue. Why? So that we may think about all these and be thankful to the creator behind it all. All these doesn’t work without the guidance of a creator who has perfected them so accurately. The verse doesn’t just end here. We are further made to realize that we are very less thankful towards The Almighty for all these blessings. How many times in a day do we remind ourselves about the senses that we are provided with or the organs that work tirelessly day and night? Moreover, do we acknowledge the power behind these blessings?

The verse precisely awakens us to the fact that we have been created with such an amazingly working body so that we may constantly remind ourselves that all of these are not given to us without any purpose. They ought to be used in the right way, to find the truth of life, to seek knowledge, and to be thankful to the power behind these creations.
